Wanyama ends his career... Kenyan legend announces retirement

Victor Wanyama hung up his boots and retired from football at the age of thirty-four, thus ending a long professional journey that he spent in the corridors of different clubs in the continents of Africa, Europe and North America.

Wanyama is considered one of the prominent figures in the history of Kenyan football. He previously played for clubs such as Tottenham, Southampton and Celtic. He is also remembered as the first Kenyan player to play in the English Premier League and score a goal in the Champions League.

In a statement published on his “X” account, Wanyama announced his retirement from football, and recalled his journey from a boy with great ambition to a player who represents his country with pride. He also thanked his family, friends, fans and everyone who supported him throughout his football career.

The Kenyan player started his career with Leopards and then moved to Nairobi City Stars before starting his professional career in Europe, where he played first in Sweden and then Belgium, before moving to Celtic in 2011.

Later, he moved to Southampton in 2013, then to Tottenham in 2016, where he spent four seasons, before leaving for Montreal in 2020, and finishing his career with the Scottish club Dunfermline Athletic.

His playing period with Tottenham is considered one of his most important football moments, as he participated in 97 matches and scored 7 goals. He also won 4 titles, including two Scottish League titles with Celtic, in addition to the Scottish Cup and the Canada Cup.

At the international level, he played 65 matches for the Kenya national team and scored 8 goals.
