Back to work: Resuming gas production from a field "Leviathan" Israeli

The Israeli Ministry of Energy announced on Thursday the resumption of work in the “Leviathan” gas field after a month-long hiatus due to the ongoing war.

Operations in this field, which is managed by Chevron, have stopped since the start of the American and Israeli military operations against Iran on February 28.

A Ministry spokesman explained that the decision to restart the platform was taken after careful study of the situation and evaluation of various aspects relevant to the current stage.

The spokesman confirmed that gas supplies to the local market were not affected during the shutdown period, and that resuming work on the “Leviathan” platform will contribute to increasing production within the existing system.

According to Reuters, Leviathan is considered among the largest gas fields in the eastern Mediterranean region, with its recoverable reserves estimated at approximately 635 billion cubic metres.

Last January, Chevron and its partners agreed to plans to expand production in the field, with the aim of increasing annual supplies from 9 billion cubic meters to about 21 billion cubic meters, with these quantities directed to the region and Europe in the form of liquefied natural gas.
