In the early hours of Monday morning, the Israeli Knesset approved the state budget for 2026, and this budget included a significant increase in military spending, in light of the ongoing war that Israel is waging on multiple fronts.
The Israeli Parliament explained in an official statement that within the framework of amending the budget, and taking into account Operation “Lion’s Roar,” an additional amount exceeding “30 billion shekels,” or approximately “10 billion dollars,” was allocated to the budget of the Ministry of Defense, bringing it to more than “142 billion shekels.”
The budget was approved by a majority of 62 votes against 55 members, while the total amount of proposed spending for 2026 is about 850 billion shekels, which is approximately equivalent to 270 billion dollars.
Approving the budget means that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government will avoid the option of going to early elections, in light of the continuing war that Israel is waging with the United States against Iran.
