Baabda is in the spotlight as events accelerate... Salam quietly leaves the scene

In light of the rapid developments in the southern arena, and the political efforts accompanying the security developments, Baabda Palace hosted a new presidential meeting as part of an ongoing series of consultations between senior officials to follow up on the latest developments.

In this context, a reporter reported that Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met with President Joseph Aoun at Baabda Palace, then left the presidential residence without making any statements.

This meeting comes after a previous meeting between President Aoun and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in Baabda, where the general situation in the country was reviewed in light of the Israeli escalation, especially the targeting of the bridges that connect the south to the rest of the Lebanese regions, and the resulting field and humanitarian impacts.

The Aoun-Berri meeting also addressed the social and humanitarian conditions resulting from the displacement of about a million citizens from the southern cities and villages that were subjected to bombing, while emphasizing the importance of national unity, maintaining civil peace, and not being led by rumours. After the meeting, Berri stated: “With the presence of His Excellency the President, I am reassured.”

The Aoun and Peace meeting is being held at a time when Lebanon and the region are witnessing successive developments, with the continuing clashes between Israel and Hezbollah on the southern front, and the escalation of the intensity of the raids that targeted areas in the south and the Bekaa, in addition to the repeated targeting of infrastructure, especially bridges and crossings over the Litani River, which increases the complexity of the field and humanitarian situation.
