Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Wednesday for the need to end the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, for fear of its expansion and extension to include the entire region, warning of the increasing negative effects it will have on the global economy.
In a speech he delivered before members of the Justice and Development Party, Erdogan stated that “the war must be stopped before it expands further and ignites the entire region.”
He stressed that diplomatic means are still capable of finding a solution to the crisis, pointing out that Türkiye is continuing its efforts “patiently to bring the parties back to the negotiating table” if the opportunity arises.
The Turkish President warned of the dire consequences of the continuation of the war, explaining that the continuation of this conflict would lead to more casualties and material losses, as well as increased economic costs at the global level.
Erdogan also stressed the need for the countries of the region not to allow this conflict to continue, which exacerbates the suffering of their people, stressing that “as people of this region, we must not allow a conflict of which we are victims to cause more suffering.”
It is noteworthy that, on Monday, Erdogan issued a warning to Iran regarding what he described as provocative measures, after NATO defenses shot down a missile launched by Tehran towards Turkey, in the second incident of its kind since the beginning of the conflict in the Middle East.
He pointed out that these measures “threaten Türkiye’s friendship,” calling for refraining from insisting on mistakes and provocations that may lead to escalation of tension in the region.
