Kyle Walker announces his retirement from international football

Kyle Walker, the veteran English player who currently occupies the right-back position for Burnley, and who previously played for Manchester City, announced his decision to retire from international football on Tuesday.

Thus, Walker (35 years old) puts an end to a busy football career, which saw him represent the England national team in 96 international matches, in addition to participating in five major tournaments.

It is noteworthy that Kyle Walker’s last appearance with the national team was in a friendly match between England and Senegal at the City Ground in June 2025.

In statements reported by the BBC, Walker expressed his feelings, saying: “I am sad to retire from international football, but I am proud of my career with the England national team.”

Walker joined Burnley in the summer transfer window last year, coming from Manchester City, after spending the second half of the 2024-2025 season on loan to Italian club AC Milan.

During his career with the England national team, Walker contributed to the “Three Lions” winning the bronze medal in the European Nations League in 2019 at the expense of Switzerland, in addition to winning the silver medal in the European Nations Championship twice, after losing the Euro 2021 final to Italy and the Euro 2024 final to Spain.

The English national team (“The Three Lions”) is preparing to participate in the 2026 World Cup finals, scheduled to be held in the summer in the United States, Canada and Mexico, which is the first edition of the World Cup to witness the participation of 48 teams.

The English national team will begin its tournament in Group Twelve, which includes Croatia, Ghana and Panama.
