The war expands regionally: Iran announces targeting an American base in Kuwait

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced the launch of a complex military operation targeting an American base in Kuwait, using drones and ballistic missiles, in the context of the ongoing military escalation in the region.

The “Revolutionary Guard” stated in a statement issued by its public relations, that the Guard’s naval force carried out at dawn on Sunday a complex operation targeting the “Al-Adiri Helicopter Base” of the American forces in Kuwait.

The statement indicated that the ballistic missile units hit what it described as “helicopter preparation and maintenance centers” inside the base, in addition to the fuel tanks for helicopters and planes, as well as the command building at the base.

The statement added that the attack led to a massive fire inside the base, pointing out that columns of thick smoke rose from the site and could be seen from long distances, according to what was stated in the statement.

It is noteworthy that the “Al-Adiri Helicopter Base” is located within Camp Arifjan in southern Kuwait, which is one of the main logistical centers for the American forces in the region. The base was previously known as “Camp Al-Udayri.”

The base plays a vital role in supporting American military operations, as it includes advanced logistical facilities that include ground support for helicopters, aircraft maintenance facilities through Patton Military Airport, in addition to facilities for armored military vehicles.

The base also hosts thousands of American and coalition soldiers, and is used as a center to support military operations and training in the region, as well as a launching point for military helicopters.

This announcement comes in light of the escalation of the military confrontation between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other, which exploded last February 28 following the start of large-scale military operations inside Iran. This escalation resulted in a series of mutual attacks targeting military sites and strategic installations in several countries in the region, which raised the level of regional tension and raised fears of the expansion of the scope of the conflict.
