Davis Cup: Taiwan and Lebanon tied 1-1 on the first day

The first day of the decisive “confrontation” between Taiwan and Lebanon in the Davis Cup competition ended in a 1-1 draw, in the “Taipei Tennis Center Hall” in Taiwan on a hard court. It is worth noting that the winner of this confrontation will guarantee qualification to the first global group.

Saturday saw two matches. In the first match, Taiwanese Tong-Lin Wu (ranked 362 in the world) was able to win over Lebanese Hadi Habib (ranked 249 in the world) with a score of two sets to zero (6-3) (6-2), giving Taiwan the lead with a score of (1-0). In the second match, the Lebanese Benjamin Hassan (ranked 259 in the world) was able to equalize the score by defeating the Taiwanese Tsung Hao Huang (ranked 500 in the world) in two sets to zero (6-4) (6-4), ending the first day in a tie (1-1).

Below is the schedule for Sunday’s matches, knowing that the team that wins three matches out of a possible five will win the match and qualify for the first global group:

– 5 am Beirut time: Men’s doubles: Benjamin Hassan and Hassan Ibrahim (Lebanon) – Tsung Hao Huang and Shing Peng Hsi (Taiwan).

– 7 am: Tung Li Wu (Taiwan) – Benjamin Hassan (Lebanon) (men’s singles).

– 9 am: Tsung Hao Huang (Taiwan) – Hadi Habib (Lebanon) (men’s singles).

It should be noted that Taiwan ranks 28th in the international classification with 313.75 points, while Lebanon ranks 51st with 262.25 points “up its sleeve.” Historically, Lebanon began its Davis Cup campaign in 1957 and played 115 matches, winning 63 and losing 52. It achieved victory in its last match against Barbados (4-0) on Egyptian soil last September.

As for Taiwan, it began its Davis Cup campaign in 1972 and played 99 matches (winning 47 and losing 52) and suffered a loss in its last match against Norway (2-3) last September.
