Iran and Israel are in anticipation and caution... American messages precede the Oman talks

Israeli officials asked the United States that Israel refrain from taking any unilateral military action against Iran, in light of preparations for negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper described the coordination between Israel and the United States as “very close” ahead of the negotiations scheduled to be held on Friday in the Sultanate of Oman, and pointed to the exchange of frequent visits between military and intelligence officers from both countries.

On the other hand, Iran fears the possibility of the United States giving Israel a “green light” to launch military operations, even during the upcoming negotiation period, similar to what happened in June of last year during the 12-day war between Israel and Iran.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority announced that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will hold a meeting on Thursday with the heads of the security services to discuss the escalation of tension with Iran and its effects.

In a related context, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Wednesday that nuclear talks between Iran and the United States will take place on Friday in the Sultanate of Oman, despite continued tension between the two sides.

Araqchi’s statement came hours after signs appeared indicating that the talks might falter due to changes in their wording and content, before Iran, and then the United States, confirmed that negotiations would go ahead.

The United States aims to expand the scope of the talks to include Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, in addition to its support for groups in the Middle East, while Tehran stresses that it will conduct exclusive negotiations on the nuclear file.
