The Workers Union warns against the backdrop of Israeli threats targeting hospitals in southern Lebanon.

The founding body of the Government Hospital Workers Union issued a strongly worded statement denouncing “the enemy’s threats to southern hospitals,” describing them as “a dangerous escalation that directly affects the health sector and threatens the right of citizens to obtain safe medical care, and a blatant violation of the sanctity of hospitals and the safety of patients and their workers, including doctors, nurses, and administrators. It also completely contradicts basic humanitarian principles and international laws that require the protection of health facilities and not subjecting them to any form of pressure or targeting.”

The authority stressed that “hospitals, especially in the border areas, operate in extremely difficult conditions and perform their humanitarian and patriotic duty without discrimination,” stressing that “exposing them to threats increases the suffering of patients and places health personnel at serious risks while carrying out their duties.”

The authority also appealed to “concerned international bodies, and health, humanitarian and human rights organizations, to take urgent action to ensure the protection of hospitals and their workers, and to prevent any violation affecting health facilities, in compliance with relevant international agreements and covenants.”
