The Revolutionary Guard comments on "Circular reports" After the Bandar Abbas explosion

After the explosion that rocked the city of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran on Saturday, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard issued a statement categorically denying the occurrence of any drone attacks on its naval headquarters in the region. The Revolutionary Guard described reports of a drone attack as “unreliable.”

The Revolutionary Guard Navy confirmed in its statement that “there was no drone attack on the Navy headquarters in Hormozgan Governorate, specifically the city of Bandar Abbas, and none of the buildings belonging to this force suffered any damage.” The statement added that the marine facilities and buildings are “intact and undamaged,” and urged obtaining information from “official and approved sources only.”

Iranian media had previously reported that an explosion had occurred in the port of Bandar Abbas, without specifying its causes. Iranian television reported that the explosion targeted an 8-story building, killing a girl and wounding 14 people, in addition to destroying two floors and causing damage to a number of vehicles and nearby stores.

For its part, the semi-official Tasnim News Agency stated that the news spread on social media about a commander in the Revolutionary Guards’ naval forces being targeted in the explosion is “completely false.”

Iranian media reports indicate that investigations are still ongoing to reveal the details and circumstances of the explosion, without revealing more details yet. This incident comes in a context of increasing tension between Iran and…USAmid continued threats from US President Donald Trump, and continuing Western concerns about the Iranian nuclear program.
