It was reported that an earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale struck the Sarghaya area this evening, and was felt by some residents of the Bekaa villages.
During the past two days, Lebanon witnessed a series of minor earthquakes, whose strength ranged between 2.5 and 3.1 degrees on the Richter scale, in various areas of the country, which raised citizens’ concerns about the possibility of broader seismic activity in the future.
In the context of her comment on these seismic activities, Director of the National Center for Geophysics (Seismic Observatory), Marilyn Al-Barracks, stated that this movement is considered natural, explaining that “the earth is moving, and when it moves, it causes these tremors, and we naturally record them.” She pointed out that citizens’ observation of these tremors has become more clear today “due to the increase in the level of circulation through social media,” indicating that these data “were not previously monitored in the same way before the spread of these platforms.”
These tremors fall within the normal rate of seismic activity in Lebanon and the surrounding region, according to scientific estimates.
