Message to Washington: American air maneuvers begin in the Middle East

American forces announced that they will conduct air exercises that will last for several days in the Middle East, in a move aimed at demonstrating and strengthening the American military presence, in conjunction with the increasing tension with Iran.

Commander of the US Central Command Air Forces, Derek France, explained that the aim of these maneuvers is to enable soldiers to demonstrate their ability to “deploy, operate, and carry out combat sorties in difficult conditions, accurately and safely, and in cooperation with partners,” thus stressing the readiness of American forces for operations in the region.

This announcement comes after warnings issued by US President Donald Trump, when he indicated the movement of an American “fleet” towards Iran, hinting at the possibility of using military force if the situation worsens.

In a related context, US Central Command announced the arrival of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to the region, which strengthens US naval and air capabilities in the area of operations.

Despite this military escalation, CNN reported, citing informed sources, that Trump is still examining available options regarding Iran, and has not made a final decision yet. The US President had previously stated: “We have many ships heading there, in case of any emergency… We are monitoring them closely.”

The Central Command statement did not disclose the location of the air exercises, their duration, or the types of military equipment used in them, and merely referred to their operational and coordination nature with regional partners.

This development comes in light of the escalation of tension between Washington and Tehran in recent weeks, due to internal protests in Iran. Trump had warned the Iranian authorities not to continue “killing demonstrators,” threatening the possibility of intervention, before later stating that Iran “wants to talk,” raising the possibility of taking a diplomatic route.

On the other hand, Tehran sharpened its tone, warning that any American attack would be met with a response that could destabilize the entire region.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei confirmed that his country is “fully capable” of responding to any attack, noting that the Iranian Armed Forces are closely and permanently monitoring developments.

For months, the Middle East has witnessed an escalation in tension between the United States and Iran, with the nuclear issue intertwining with internal protests in Tehran and the deployment of American forces in the region. Military maneuvers are considered one of the strategic pressure tools used by Washington, along with keeping the door open for diplomatic solutions, amid regional fears that the escalation could turn into a broad military confrontation.
