Local authorities in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato announced a tragic incident that occurred on Sunday, in which 11 people were killed following a shooting in a football stadium.
Initial reports stated that the armed attack, which targeted the stadium located in the state of Guanajuato, also resulted in 12 other people being injured.
The horrific incident occurred in a neighborhood of Salamanca, where officials from the mayor’s office announced the launch of a large-scale operation to search for the perpetrators.
A statement issued by the mayor’s office said: “11 people were confirmed dead, 10 of them at the scene of the incident, and one while receiving treatment in the hospital. 12 other people were also injured as a result of the shooting and are currently receiving treatment.”
The motives for the attack and the identity of the attackers are still unknown, while the authorities have begun an intensive investigation to reveal the details of the incident and take the necessary legal measures.
In a related context, authorities reported finding 4 bags containing human remains in Salamanca late Saturday night, a few hours before the shooting incident.
