Following news circulating on social media and news sites regarding an incident at the Riyaq Hospital, the Lebanese Order of Physicians in Beirut issued a clarifying statement, following its contact with the hospital administration and the doctor responsible for the case.
The Order stated that the patient in question underwent a major and complex surgery at Riyaq Hospital, a “Debulking Surgery” to remove a large ovarian mass. The surgery was successful, and the patient received the necessary medical care according to approved medical standards and procedures.
The Order indicated that the problem arose due to the insistence of the patient’s relatives on bringing food from outside the hospital, which contradicts the hospital’s policy and medical instructions that require following a specific diet after major surgeries, in order to maintain the patient’s health.
The Order also confirmed that the claims that spread about the patient being expelled or removed from the hospital are baseless, explaining that the patient continued to receive medical care inside the hospital after the incident, where her health condition was monitored until her full recovery, and she received the best levels of medical care and services.
The Lebanese Order of Physicians in Beirut concluded its statement by emphasizing that all measures taken were based on concern for the patient’s safety and commitment to medical and professional standards.
