FBL-AFR-2025-MATCH 52-SEN-MAR

Total absence of Egypt’s national team stars

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced today, Wednesday, the ideal lineup for the 2025/26 African Cup of Nations tournament, which was held in Morocco and won by the Senegalese national team.

The “CAF” selections witnessed the presence of four players from the Moroccan national team, namely: “Yassine Bounou”, “Noussair Mazraoui”, “Achraf Hakimi”, and “Brahim Diaz”.

Four players from the title-winning team were also selected, namely: “Pape Gueye”, “Sadio Mané”, “Moussa Niakhaté”, and “Idrissa Gueye”.

In contrast, three players from the Nigerian national team, which finished third, were present, while no player from the “Pharaohs” was selected, despite the Egyptian national team reaching the semi-finals.

The ideal lineup for the tournament came as follows:

Goalkeeper: “Yassine Bounou”.

Defense: “Noussair Mazraoui” – “Moussa Niakhaté” – “Calvin” – “Achraf Hakimi”.

Midfield: “Idrissa Gueye” – “Pape Gueye” – “Ademola Lookman”.

Attack: “Brahim Diaz” – “Victor Osimhen” – “Sadio Mané”.

It is worth mentioning that the final match of the African Cup of Nations witnessed unprecedented events, after a penalty kick was awarded to Morocco in the stoppage time of the second half.

“Pape Thiaw”, the coach of the Senegalese national team, ordered his players to withdraw from the pitch of Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

The “Lions of Teranga” players left the field and went to the changing rooms, in compliance with the coach’s order.

But after a few minutes, the Senegalese national team players returned again to complete the match.

The Confederation of African Football issued an official statement last Monday, condemning the events that took place during the African Cup of Nations final.
