Common interests drive the Real Madrid president to help Laporta

A Spanish press report revealed today, Sunday, a big surprise regarding the relationship between “Florentino Pérez,” the president of Real Madrid, and “Joan Laporta,” the president of Barcelona.

The recent period witnessed tension in the relationship between the two clubs, as a result of Real Madrid’s continuous criticism regarding the “Negreira case” in which Barcelona is accused of receiving refereeing assistance, in addition to withdrawing from the Super League project.

According to the Spanish newspaper “El Confidencial,” “Pérez” is the one who contributed to “Laporta’s” return to the presidency of Barcelona.

The newspaper explained that “Pérez” communicated directly with “Sabadell” bank during the last Barcelona elections, as “Laporta” needed to deposit an amount of 124.6 million euros in the Catalan club’s accounts, an amount he did not possess.

The newspaper added that the bank was very hesitant to approve this request, due to the financial crisis that Barcelona was suffering from, but “Pérez’s” insistence ultimately convinced the bank to approve depositing the amount in the club’s accounts.

The newspaper pointed out that the motive behind “Pérez” doing this is to consider “Laporta” an ally in the Super League project, before Barcelona later withdrew from the competition.
