Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez reaffirmed that Venezuela has full sovereign right to maintain its diplomatic relations with China, Russia, Iran, and Cuba, while completely rejecting any American interference in the country’s affairs, and criticizing what she considered an aggressive stance from Washington towards Caracas.
During her annual speech to review the performance of the executive branch before the Venezuelan Parliament, Rodríguez affirmed the state’s right to determine its foreign policy independently, stressing that Venezuela is “a sovereign nation,” as reported by the “Venezuela Times” newspaper.
She stated: “We have the right to establish diplomatic relations with China, with Russia, with Iran, with Cuba, and with all the peoples of the world,” stressing her rejection of any attempt to impose foreign orientations on the country.
She also denounced what she called the “invasive aggression” launched by the United States on the third of January, considering it “a stain on relations between the two countries.”
In the same context, Rodríguez explained that her government, despite the hostile American measures, chose to follow the “diplomatic path” in facing the crisis imposed on Venezuela.
She described the current stage as the beginning of a “new political era,” and dedicated a large part of her speech to praising President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who were arrested during the American aggression on the third of January.
