U.S. President Donald Trump affirmed that the United States “has supported Denmark and the European Union countries for many years and we have not imposed fees on them,” adding, “It is time for Denmark to return the favor, as world peace is at stake.”

Trump added, considering that “China and Russia want Greenland and Denmark can’t do anything,” and emphasizing that “America under my leadership can stand against Russia and China regarding Greenland,” as he stressed that “no one will touch Greenland, especially since our national and global security is at stake.”

In a related context, Trump announced the imposition of customs duties of 10% on imports from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Britain, and the Netherlands, explaining that the duties “will remain on these countries until an agreement is reached regarding the purchase of Greenland,” and added: “We will raise the duties to 25% on these countries next June.”

He also pointed out that “America has sought to complete the Greenland deal for more than 150 years,” considering that “European countries are playing a dangerous game regarding Greenland.”
