The U.S. Embassy in Lebanon has issued an alert regarding the spread of misinformation, warning against believing rumors and misleading news circulating through some unofficial accounts and platforms. The embassy affirmed that official information and statements issued by it and the U.S. Ambassador are limited to its official and verified accounts only.
The embassy published this warning accompanied by an explanatory image via its official account on the “X” platform, emphasizing the importance of relying only on official sources to obtain correct and accurate information related to the embassy’s positions, activities, or statements.
The embassy clarified that its official accredited accounts include its accounts on “X,” “Facebook,” “Instagram,” and “YouTube,” in addition to the communication channel via “WhatsApp,” calling on followers to verify the accuracy of the information circulating and compare it with what is published through these official channels specifically.
This step comes within the framework of the embassy’s endeavor to combat fake news and misinformation, and its concern for transparency and providing reliable information to the public, in light of increasing attempts to impersonate and publish inaccurate content falsely attributed to official entities.
