Venezuelan acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, announced on Friday the decision of her country’s government to begin what she called a “diplomatic exploration process” with the government of the United States.
Rodríguez stated that the aim of this initiative is to rebuild diplomatic relations between the two countries, in order to address the consequences of what she described as the assault and kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, affirming that Venezuela will deal with these developments through diplomatic means and methods.
In contrast, Venezuelan Minister of Information, Freddy Ñáñez, denied the news circulating in local media regarding a possible visit by Rodríguez to the United States next week, emphasizing that “it is not expected that the acting President Delcy Rodríguez will make any trip abroad in the near future,” and added that the government is currently focusing on internal priorities to ensure the people’s right to peace and stability.
Rodríguez had confirmed in previous statements Venezuela’s readiness “to establish energy relations that benefit all parties,” noting that her country “will not surrender to any kind of aggression,” and that its hand is “extended to all countries of the world.”
It is worth noting that Rodríguez was sworn in as acting president of Venezuela, after the Supreme Constitutional Court approved her appointment to this position, following the kidnapping of Maduro at the beginning of this month.
