According to a report published by the Israeli newspaper “The Jerusalem Post,” Hamas resumed its efforts on Wednesday to search for the remains of the last remaining hostage in the Gaza Strip, in coordination with the Israeli side.
The newspaper indicated that this cooperation aims to enable Hamas to continue searching in areas under the control of the Israeli army, specifically in the eastern region of the Yellow Line, which divides the sector into two parts.
The search operations are currently focused in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, located north of the Gaza Strip, which is an area shared by Israel and Hamas.
Under the ceasefire agreement concluded between Hamas and Israel, which began implementation on “October 10, 2025,” the movement committed to returning all hostages, numbering “48”. It has already succeeded in returning “20” live hostages, in addition to “27” bodies of deceased hostages.
The current search aims to recover the remains of the last hostage, in implementation of the plan of US President “Donald Trump” to end the Gaza war.
In return, Israel released nearly “2000” Palestinian detainees from its prisons, and also returned the bodies of hundreds of Palestinians to the Gaza Strip.
The handover of the remains of the last Israeli hostage is expected to contribute to the transition to the next phase of the “Trump” plan, which includes the disarmament of the Palestinian factions, led by Hamas, the formation of a technocratic government to manage the affairs of the sector, the establishment of a peace council headed by “Trump”, and the deployment of an international force to achieve stability.
Israel had warned that it would not move to the second phase of the plan if the body of the last hostage was not recovered.
