The year 2025 witnessed a worrying increase in traffic accidents, leaving behind tragic losses of life and injuries reflecting the extent of road safety weaknesses. As New Year’s Eve approaches, the risks are significantly exacerbated by late nights and distracted driving, making every trip on the road a fateful test between life and death.
In this context, researcher at the International Information, Mohammed Shamseddine, explained in a statement that “traffic accidents during 2025 witnessed a remarkable increase compared to 2024, with 3,052 traffic accidents recorded during the first eleven months of this year, compared to 2,153 accidents during the same period last year, an increase of 899 accidents, or approximately 42%.”
A worrying increase in the number of deaths and injuries
Shamseddine continues: “The number of deaths resulting from these accidents reached 486 people, compared to 411 deaths in 2024, an increase of 75 deaths, or 18%. The number of injuries increased significantly to 3,550 injuries, compared to 2,404 injuries in the previous year, an increase of 1,146 injuries, or 48%.”
He also points out that “some of these injuries are serious and may lead to death later in some cases, and from here it can be said that 2025 witnessed a worrying and remarkable increase in traffic accidents.”
Reasons for the increase in accidents: roads, speed, and negligence
Regarding the reasons for this increase, Shamseddine explains that “the increase in accidents is due to well-known factors, including the condition of the roads, lack of lighting, recklessness and speed, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, using a cell phone while driving, in addition to the condition of cars that need regular maintenance.”
The most important challenge remains to promote traffic awareness and adherence to safety rules, especially during peak times and events, to reduce risks and protect lives, before recording more victims in accident records.
