MP Jamil El-Sayed commented via his account on the “X” platform on the Arab League and 21 Arab and Islamic countries condemning Israel’s recognition of “Somaliland” as an independent state.
El-Sayed clarified that the Arab League’s and a number of Arab and Islamic countries’ denunciation of Israel’s recognition of “Somaliland,” despite its strength, appears similar to the denunciations that did not achieve tangible results in the Gaza issue.
El-Sayed affirmed his conviction that the state of “Somaliland” will inevitably be established, and wondered who would dare to oppose Israel after this recognition.
Jamil El-Sayed’s statements come amidst the rapid developments in the “Somaliland” issue, which is the region located in the Horn of Africa that unilaterally declared its secession from Somalia in 1991 without obtaining formal international recognition. This issue has recently returned to the spotlight after Israel announced its recognition of the region, which sparked widespread reactions in the Arab and Islamic worlds.
The Arab League and a number of Arab and Islamic countries had expressed their condemnation of the Israeli move, considering it an attack on the unity of Somali territory and a dangerous precedent in international relations. Observers believe that this recognition is linked to a broader context of Israeli moves in the Horn of Africa region, and attempts to strengthen its political and security influence in strategic areas on the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
