The Kuwaiti Criminal Court has sentenced a lawyer to three years in prison after convicting him of spreading false news regarding complaints from those whose citizenship was revoked based on Article 8 of the Kuwaiti Nationality Law, in addition to accusing him of inciting violations of the law.
The Kuwaiti newspaper “Al-Qabas” stated that the Public Prosecution began investigating the accused lawyer and then issued a decision to imprison him for three years because of his appearance in a video clip that included encouragement to violate the law.
It is worth noting that Article 8 of the Kuwaiti Nationality Law, after amendment, stipulates that the marriage of a non-Kuwaiti woman to a Kuwaiti man does not grant her Kuwaiti citizenship directly, but requires the fulfillment of certain procedures and conditions.
It is noted that Kuwait witnessed a marked increase in the number of citizenship revocation cases due to forgery during 2025, compared to the previous year.
Also, during the first nine months of 2025, the concerned authorities completed the processing of a number of forgery cases equal to three times the number dealt with throughout 2024 as a whole.
The Kuwaiti government emphasizes that the procedures for withdrawing citizenship from people who have committed forgery or hold two nationalities aim to preserve the “national identity, achieve stability, protect the national fabric,” and cleanse the records of individuals who obtained citizenship illegally.
