
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Labor, this meeting falls within the framework of regular follow-up of the “Cost of Living Index,” and discussion of the best ways to improve the conditions of workers in the private sector, especially with regard to the “Minimum Wage” and “School Assistance.” The committee praised the decision taken by the National Social Security Fund to increase “Family Allowances,” stressing that this step represents great support for workers in light of the current economic conditions.
After the meeting, Minister Haidar met with the head of the economic bodies, former Minister Muhammad Choucair, and the Director General of the National Social Security Fund, Muhammad Karaki, where they discussed the “End-of-Service Indemnity File” and possible solutions to address it. He also received a delegation from the National Social Security Fund Employees Syndicate, headed by Hassan Houmani, and in the presence of the President of the General Labor Union, Bechara Asmar. During the meeting, the problems related to the rights of social security employees and their job conditions were reviewed.
In a separate context, the Minister of Labor met with Ms. Kerstin-Maria Schappert, “Senior Specialist in International Labor Standards and Labor Law,” where they discussed a number of “Joint Projects,” in addition to the “Labor Law,” while Minister Haidar continues a series of meetings with the concerned parties in order to finalize the proposed amendments to the law.
The Minister also received a delegation from the Syndicate of Owners of Unloading Trucks in the “Port of Beirut,” and the meeting dealt with the conditions of the sector and the demands related to the work of trucks inside the port.
