
Fiala added, explaining that his country had pledged to provide 1.8 million large artillery shells to Ukraine by 2025, then confirmed: “I can confirm that we have achieved this goal today.”
It is worth noting that the Czech Republic launched an initiative in the spring of 2024 aimed at purchasing ammunition and heavy artillery shells from other countries in order to support the Ukrainian army, with funding from Western countries. Czech media reported that about 20 Western countries have joined this initiative.
The Czech President, Petr Pavel, announced in a press conference at the beginning of last May that it is planned, within this initiative, to deliver approximately 1.8 million heavy artillery shells to Ukraine during 2025.
On the other hand, Russia consistently insists that supplying Ukraine with weapons does not help to find a solution to the crisis, but rather leads to the direct involvement of NATO countries in this conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that any arms shipment to Ukraine will be considered a legitimate target for Russia.
