The Department of Media and Public Relations in the General Directorate of Civil Defense issued a statement stating that its firefighting teams were able to extinguish a fire that broke out inside a sawmill located on the first basement floor of a four-story building in the town of Al-Simqanieh in the Chouf region.
The teams succeeded in containing the fire and controlling it before it spread to the ground floor, which is used as a wood store. The quick response contributed to preventing the fire from reaching the first and second floors, which are designated for housing, which limited the damage to the material aspect.
In a related context, the Civil Defense announced that its members were able to extinguish another fire at 5:10 am, inside a garage belonging to a residential building in the Badaro area. The teams worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to an electric generator and two fuel tanks.
The statement added that the members evacuated six citizens who were trapped by smoke inside the building, using the mechanical ladder.
