In a lengthy post on his “Truth Social” platform on Tuesday evening, “Trump” stated that his performance “is still among the best,” stressing that he works long hours “that no president has ever worked before.” He added, “The New York Times is publishing misleading reports with the intention of defaming and insulting the President of the United States… They are real enemies of the people, and we must take action against them.”
“Trump” pointed out that he underwent “extensive and comprehensive” medical examinations and was able to “excel” in cognitive tests, noting that other presidents “did not undergo them at all.” He also believed that the best thing that could happen to the United States is for the newspaper to stop publishing because it is a “biased and unreliable source of information.”
It is worth noting that the “New York Times” published a report in November talking about a decline in “Trump’s” public activity and a reduction in his working hours compared to his first presidential term, in addition to undergoing additional examinations, including an MRI, which raised questions about his health, especially after he appeared tired on many occasions.
The “New York Times” quickly responded to “Trump’s” statements, as its spokeswoman, Nicole Taylor, told Agence France-Presse, saying: “Americans deserve in-depth reports and regular updates on the health of the leaders they elect.”
She added: “Trump has previously welcomed our coverage of the age and fitness of his predecessors, and today we are applying the same level of journalistic scrutiny to his vitality.”
She confirmed that the newspaper’s reports are based on “multiple sources and interviews with people close to the president and medical experts,” stressing that “incitement and distortion will not deter us from our role as a free press.”
