
Barrack wrote in a tweet on “X” that these discussions also address the issue of Turkey’s possession of the Russian “S-400” air defense system, stressing that U.S. law prohibits the use or possession of this system if Ankara wishes to return to the “F-35” program.
He added that the relationship between U.S. President “Donald Trump” and his Turkish counterpart “Recep Tayyip Erdoğan” has yielded a new atmosphere of cooperation, making the discussions on this issue “the most feasible in about 10 years.”
It is worth mentioning that the United States excluded Turkey from the advanced fighter jet production program supervised by “Lockheed Martin,” and also imposed sanctions on it in 2020 due to its purchase of the “S-400” system. In contrast, Ankara affirms that this decision was unfair and expresses its hope to overcome this dispute during Trump’s second term.
