Real Madrid CF v RC Celta de Vigo - LaLiga EA Sports

Xabi Alonso, the Real Madrid coach, expressed his dissatisfaction with the defeat his team suffered against Celta Vigo by two goals to nil in the match that brought them together on Sunday evening as part of the fifteenth round of La Liga competitions.

This loss is considered the first that the royal team has suffered on its home ground, “the Bernabéu,” in league competitions this season.

Alonso told the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”: “We are all very angry because this is not the performance we wanted. We have to get over it. It’s only three points, the league is long, and most importantly we have a match next Wednesday (against Manchester City) to make up for what we missed.”

He spoke about his team’s performance during the match, pointing out that “the rush and intensity were not as we expected and we missed some essential elements. We suffer a lot from injuries, and perhaps our best reaction was when we played with ten players. We understand the fans’ anger, and on Wednesday we have to show a different face.”

Regarding the general situation of the team, he added: “We can go through a bad match at home, the important thing is to look forward. We know the size of the requirements of this club.”

Regarding the referee’s performance, he said: “The referee’s decisions bothered us, I didn’t like them. The card that Álvaro got is controversial and as if it came with excessive enthusiasm.”

Alonso confirmed that “improving behavioral standards is a collective responsibility and we must continue to work on it,” stressing the team’s responsibility to improve discipline and collective behavior.

He also touched on the condition of the players Mastantuono and Ceballos, saying: “Franco is regaining his fitness after suffering from pubic inflammation and needs more training, and Dani is of course an important part of the team.”

Regarding how to face teams that rely on compact defense, he explained: “We have to find solutions. Sometimes we succeeded in penetrating them and sometimes we did not succeed. When we played with ten players, we created more opportunities, and we have to continue working on that.”

Alonso concluded his speech by emphasizing the team’s determination to compete and build a strong base, saying: “We are currently going through a stage of accumulated injuries, and it is difficult to continue with complete stability, but the team wants to compete and build a strong base, and we are on the right track.”
