An agreement has been reached between “Katz” and Finance Minister “Bezalel Smotrich” on the defense spending framework during cabinet discussions on the budget, which must be approved by March 2026, otherwise early elections may be called.
“Katz” affirmed that the army will continue to meet the needs of its fighters and ease the burden on reserve soldiers, in order to ensure Israel’s security on all fronts. He noted that the Gaza war in 2024 cost Israel about $31 billion, in addition to its conflicts with Hezbollah in Lebanon, despite the ceasefire agreements concluded with Hamas and Hezbollah.
For his part, “Smotrich” stated that the new budget is 47 billion shekels more than the 2023 budget before the war, which allows for strengthening the army and restoring the economic growth path for citizens. (Sky News)
