A fire broke out on an Airbus A320 aircraft in Brazil, after passengers boarded and before takeoff.

The Brazilian website “dopovo” reported that the incident occurred at São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport on the night of December 4th, when a piece of ground service equipment near the aircraft caught fire. This led to the evacuation of passengers on a LATAM flight who were about to board the plane.

The site indicated that the fire started in the baggage handling equipment, but security and fire crews intervened quickly and managed to extinguish the fire before things escalated.

LATAM issued an official statement confirming that despite the panic, the fire did not result in any injuries among passengers or crew members, stressing that it had taken all necessary precautions.

The statement read: “We are investigating the causes of the fire and will cooperate with the authorities to understand what happened. The safety of our passengers and crew is an absolute priority.”

Passengers experienced moments of chaos after the fire was announced, with some rushing to leave the plane, while others chose to stay and wait for instructions from the security teams.
