لبنان يخطو خطوة غير مسبوقة بإطلاق مشروع رائد لتمكين ذوي الإعاقة: "التنقّل حق للجميع!"

In a precedent at the national level, the AbleTransit (Mobility for Everyone) project was launched yesterday, Wednesday, a comprehensive mobility initiative aimed at serving people with disabilities and the elderly, as well as people of determination. This project represents a significant turning point towards strengthening basic human rights, foremost of which is the right to move freely and with dignity.

The launch of this project coincided with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which falls on December 3, in a symbolic reference that confirms the commitment of the parties concerned to bring about tangible change in the lives of these groups in Lebanon.

In this context, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the “Addition” Festival and the President of the Lebanese Club for People of Determination, Sam Saad, stated to about the official launch of the project, describing it as “the first comprehensive national project for inclusive mobility in Lebanon,” stressing that this initiative stems from a deep belief that “mobility is a right for all without exception.”

Saad: Today we are opening a new window of hope… and mobility is a right that cannot be compromised

Saad explained that AbleTransit is now ready to operate at full capacity after fruitful cooperation between a car rental company and another for taxi services, which allowed the creation of an integrated transportation system that meets the needs of people of determination according to the highest standards of safety and comfort.

He added: “We are proud of this national project… It is a necessary step towards empowering people of determination and giving them the ability to move freely and with dignity, within a society that believes that mobility is a basic right for all.”

He pointed out that all preparations have been completed under the management of AbleTransit, starting from the equipped and compliant cars, through the training of drivers, to the full operational and field services, in close cooperation with the Lebanese Club for People of Determination.

A safe transportation system… and a step towards a more inclusive society

According to Saad, the adopted model guarantees:

Cars fully equipped to receive wheelchair users.

High levels of comfort and safety.

Specialized operational management that handles the daily readiness of vehicles and services.

Constant quality control and training of drivers to deal with respect and professionalism.

He affirmed that the project goes beyond being just a transportation service, but carries a social and ethical message that “Lebanon is capable, people of determination are present and active, and mobility is a right for all.”

A step towards greater social justice

The launch of AbleTransit paves the way for a new phase aimed at making Lebanon more inclusive and equitable, where mobility becomes an inherent right and not a privilege, based on the belief that any society that does not guarantee freedom of movement for its weakest groups cannot be a just society.

Saad concluded his statement by saying: “From Lebanon… we begin a journey towards a more inclusive and humane society. Mobility is a right for all, today, tomorrow and always.”
