After approximately nine years since its launch in 2016, Google is preparing to discontinue support for its voice assistant known as “Google Assistant” on a wide range of devices around the world, as part of an organized plan to replace it with its new artificial intelligence-based system called “Gemini.”
According to what the company announced in a statement via its support pages, the traditional version of “Google Assistant” will stop working on the majority of mobile devices, and it will not be possible to download it from app stores later this year.
The statement indicated that the transition to “Gemini” will include: smartphones, tablets, in addition to cars connected to phones via Android Auto, and smart devices connected to the Internet such as speakers and smart watches. (Emirates 24)
