ChatGPT: A Quantum Leap Towards AI-Powered Group Chat

OpenAI has announced the global launch of group chat functionality in ChatGPT, now available to all users, whether they are using the free or paid version. This expansion follows a short trial period in a limited number of countries.

This new feature transforms ChatGPT from a mere individual tool into a collaborative interactive platform, where friends, family, and colleagues can collaborate on tasks, plan projects, and make decisions collectively within a single conversation, while maintaining the independence of each user’s settings and memories.

The new feature allows up to 20 people to participate in a single conversation after accepting the invitation. A group conversation can be easily created by clicking on the people icon and adding participants or by sharing a direct invitation link. Each new participant is required to create a brief profile before joining the conversation. When a new member is added to an existing conversation, a new conversation is automatically created without affecting the original conversation.

The company clarified that ChatGPT will be able to interact in group conversations when needed, while remaining silent at appropriate times, in addition to the possibility of replies and the use of emojis. OpenAI emphasizes that this feature represents the beginning of a new phase, where ChatGPT becomes a collaborative work environment and not just an individual experience.
