عمان: مباحثات ثلاثية لتعزيز البنية التحتية للطاقة بين الأردن ولبنان وسوريا

Meetings of tripartite cooperation, bringing together Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, were held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, today, Thursday, to discuss joint projects in the electricity and gas sectors. The meetings were attended by the Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, the Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water, Joa الصدى, and the Syrian Minister of Energy, Eng. Muhammad Al-Bashir, in addition to technical and engineering delegations from the three countries.

The meeting focused on the importance of assessing the technical condition of the infrastructure of electrical interconnection networks and gas transmission lines in Syria and Lebanon, with the Jordanian side emphasizing its readiness to meet part of the energy needs of the two brotherly countries.

The ministers agreed to form joint technical teams to undertake the task of evaluating and updating the lines, in a way that serves the interests of the three countries, in addition to developing a detailed action plan with the necessary procedures to be followed up by all concerned parties. These meetings aim to enhance Arab cooperation in the field of energy by reactivating electricity interconnection projects, resuming the flow of gas through the Arab Gas Pipeline, improving the efficiency of the energy system, and increasing the level of reliability in supply between the three countries.

The Minister of Energy and Water, Joa الصدى, affirmed that “this meeting comes within the framework of sustaining communication and cooperation with friendly neighboring countries, stressing that interconnection projects benefit all parties.” He added that “gas and electricity interconnection projects are essential for establishing joint Arab cooperation and contribute to opening the door for broader economic projects in the future.”

For his part, the Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, explained that “Jordan believes in the necessity of strengthening levels of cooperation between the three countries in various energy projects, and addressing the existing challenges to achieve everyone’s interests.” He indicated that “this meeting aims to invest joint opportunities in electricity and gas interconnection projects, in cooperation with donor agencies such as the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development and the World Bank, stressing Jordan’s determination to maximize these opportunities and push cooperation forward.”

For his part, the Syrian Minister of Energy, Eng. Muhammad Al-Bashir, stressed that “Syria’s geographical location as a connecting point between Jordan and Lebanon in electrical transmission lines and the Arab Gas Pipeline requires continuous coordination to rehabilitate these lines and return them to work according to technical requirements, after the damage they sustained as a result of the political situations.” He pointed out that “the technical teams are working intensively to rehabilitate the electrical interconnection lines and overcome the challenges facing the Arab Gas Pipeline with Lebanon, confirming that the lines connected to Jordan enjoy high readiness.”

Jordan had previously affirmed its readiness to supply Lebanon and Syria with part of their energy needs as soon as the necessary arrangements are completed, especially the completion of the necessary technical repairs to the damaged Syrian networks.

The three countries hope that these meetings will contribute to reviving joint interconnection projects and strengthening integration in the energy sector, providing sustainable solutions and supporting economic stability and vital services in the region.
