According to documents comprising 20,000 pages presented by the US House Oversight Committee, Epstein sent an email to Barrack in March 2016 stating: “Send photos of you and the child – make me smile.” It was not clear from the document who Epstein meant by “the child.”
This message came after Epstein told Barrack that he was receiving “many calls” about his friendship with Donald Trump, which he said he was not responding to, and after Barrack suggested they “connect.”
American investigative journalist, Amber Woods, pointed out that Trump had nominated Barrack in March to be the US Ambassador to Turkey, during a period when Barrack was facing political and legal scrutiny, before being arrested in 2021 on federal charges related to acting as an unregistered foreign agent for the UAE.
The documents relied upon by Woods included a list of purchases classified as gifts, including an $11,000 “Rolex” watch, recorded in August 2003 as a gift for Barrack. Other messages showed that Barrack’s assistant contacted Epstein’s assistant in May 2006 to request a change to a meeting between the two men due to an “emergency,” confirming that Barrack was “ready to meet him at home or in the office,” while Epstein suggested that the meeting take place at his home.
Woods quoted Barrack’s representative as saying that the latter “did not receive any gift from Jeffrey Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell,” denying receipt of the aforementioned watch.
Woods also noted the appearance of singer Michael Jackson’s name in Epstein’s “black address book,” but indicated that Barrack is considered “the only documented link” between two celebrities accused of child-related issues, in addition to Jackson’s name.
