Dermatologist Miriam Vega Gonzalez at Johns Hopkins University confirms that “hair loss has become a frequent daily complaint.” At the same time, skin experts describe the current situation as the “golden age of hair treatments,” thanks to the availability of therapeutic options that were not previously available, according to the American newspaper “The Washington Post.”
Dermatologists point out that there are three main types of hair loss:
* Androgenetic alopecia: It leads to gradual thinning of hair in both men and women.
* Diffuse hair loss: This type appears after exposure to stress, illness, after childbirth, or after surgery, and the condition often improves within a few months.
* Localized autoimmune hair loss (alopecia areata): This type may cause hair to fall out in patches.
Treatments that have proven effective include: topical or oral “Minoxidil”, “Finasteride” for men and some women, in addition to “Spironolactone” in some cases.
In addition, doctors may resort to supportive techniques such as plasma injections or low-frequency light therapy.
Treatment usually needs a period of six months to a full year to show clear results.
Doctors warn against relying on biotin supplements, due to the lack of sufficient evidence proving their effectiveness, and confirm that paying attention to sleep, proper nutrition, and stress management remain the basics of maintaining healthy hair.
