Despite the existence of many photo editing programs, which have much more powerful functions for professional photographers, Apple’s Photos application has a function for classifying and managing photos.
Once the images are imported, the application automatically sorts them by date and time, and if the user wants to quickly find a specific image during a trip or at a specific location, they can do so by clicking on the small “i” icon in the upper right side of the menu bar, and the keyboard shortcut “CMD + i”, which opens a small window containing basic information about the image.
At the top of the page there is a small box called “Add a Title”, here the user can enter a title for one or more images, and then these images can be found by performing a text search, and all that is required here is to enter the desired title in the search box at the top right by the magnifying glass.
The user can customize titles for individual or multiple images, and to do this, the desired images must first be selected, and then a descriptive title is entered.
In addition, the user can – by clicking on the right mouse button – merge several images and create a single album with a descriptive title, and the advantage of this function is the possibility of sharing this album with family or friends via the cloud computing service “iCloud”.
Sometimes, the user may want to collect all the photos of an event, or photos of similar content in one group, and if this is not done by title, it is possible to rely on keywords.
In this case, rely on the “Add Keyword” box, where creativity can be unleashed, so if the picture is for eating with friends, you can allocate the words “food” and “friends” to be keywords, or choose any appropriate keyword.
If the user wants to refer later to all the images that include cars or cats, they can select keywords such as “cars” and “cat”, and if the user wants to make the selection more specific, such as all the images that include cars from a particular company, then this name can be assigned to be a keyword.
There are many camera applications for smartphones, including the Apple iPhone, which can record the location of the image as desired, and this information is usually stored in advance in the Photos application, and if the camera cannot record the location data, or if the user does not want to collect this data by default, it can be added later, and these actions start by clicking on the “i” icon.
In the next step, enter the name of the city, country, address, or even the name of a tourist attraction in the “Set a Location” box, and the geographic database built into the Photos application allows you to pinpoint the location in many countries.
The process of organizing photos by titles, albums and keywords usually takes some time, especially if there are digital photos that have been around for many years, but it is worth the effort to make it easier to find them in the future.
Apple’s Photos app also includes a photo analysis function, and all that’s required is to type what the user is looking for in the magnifying glass box.
The user often finds what they are looking for, whether it is cats, mountains, trees or buildings, and then the images can be classified better. (Al Jazeera Net)
