Apple: Using Google's "Gemini" Model to Develop "Siri"

Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that Apple plans to use Google’s Gemini AI model, which has 1.2 trillion parameters, to enhance the capabilities of its voice assistant Siri after it is updated.

The news agency stated that the two companies are close to finalizing the agreement after a comprehensive evaluation, and Apple is expected to pay around $1 billion annually to benefit from this technology.

Gemini will be used as a temporary solution until Apple’s own system is ready, given its significant superiority over Siri’s current capabilities, which have always been less efficient than Alexa and Google Assistant in handling complex requests and integrating with external applications.

The report indicated that this deal is separate from any direct integration of Gemini into Siri as a chat program, and Google’s AI-powered research will not be introduced into Apple’s operating systems.

Apple announced in March that AI-related improvements to Siri would be delayed until 2026, while competitors such as Google and Amazon have rushed to update their voice assistants with AI technologies over the past two years. (Arm News)
