"Reconstruction Funding": Fadlallah Calls on Government to Allocate a Clear Budget

During an initial coordination meeting for reconstruction held in Al Musaylih, MP Hassan Fadlallah, a member of the “Loyalty to the Resistance” bloc, stated: “This meeting is being held while blood is being shed on the land of the South due to the ongoing Israeli attacks.”

He clarified that “after the ceasefire, we began communicating with the previous government, and we agreed on a set of steps, of which only one was implemented, which is the removal of rubble, while none of the other steps were implemented.” He added that “the government has a set of responsibilities, including the legal framework for reconstruction, especially since the central issue relates to the demolished homes of citizens, and so far no measures have been taken by the government in this file.”

Fadlallah pointed out that “efforts were made within the government to secure funding within the general budget for reconstruction,” stressing that “what is required of the government is not to allocate the full amount, but to set a clear and specific appropriation for the demolished houses so that the citizen feels that the state is actually concerned with the reconstruction process.”

He continued, saying: “As Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri said, the budget will not pass in Parliament unless it includes a clear clause for reconstruction,” stressing “that we are determined that the reconstruction file be the top priority.”

Fadlallah concluded his speech expressing his hope that “we hope that the government will listen and respond to our demands and give utmost importance to the reconstruction file.”
