The Sidon Municipal Council held its last periodic meeting, chaired by Engineer “Mustafa Majed Hijazi,” and attended by Vice President Dr. “Ahmed Saeed Akra” and council members. The meeting addressed the agenda and several important municipal decisions were made.

During the meeting, the council approved the draft budget for the Municipality of Sidon for the year 2026, which amounted to 315 billion Lebanese pounds. The approval came after an extensive discussion of revenue and operating expense estimates for essential facilities and municipal committee programs. President “Hijazi” affirmed that the budget is characterized by being operational and flexible to ensure the continued provision of public services, pending increased revenues from new investments in municipal properties, especially on the city’s waterfront.

The council also approved the terms of tenders for a number of vital facilities in the city, including street sweeping, the municipal slaughterhouse, the public swimming pool, the “Boutique Hotel”, and the municipal stadium, in preparation for launching public auctions in accordance with legal procedures.

In addition, the council approved the project to replace tiles with asphalt in the commercial market, starting from Al-Najma Square to Dabbaneh Palace, in order to facilitate traffic flow and reduce damage resulting from excavations, which will positively affect the economic activity in the city. The work will be carried out under the supervision of the Works Committee and the Engineering Department.

The council also discussed a presentation by an investment entity to develop and rehabilitate the Engineer “Muhammad Zuhair Al-Saudi” Garden located in the south of the city, and transform it into a zoo and an integrated entertainment and tourist center, in order to enhance the tourism and entertainment aspect of the city of Sidon.
