وعلى الرغم من هذا الخلاف الدبلوماسي، لم يصدر أي تعليق رسمي من “كارني” حتى الآن، بينما تشير التحليلات إلى أن التوتر المستجد بين واشنطن وأوتاوا قد يؤثر سلبًا على العلاقات الاقتصادية بين البلدين، خاصة في قطاعات المعادن والتبادل التجاري.
Trump explained that the advertisement broadcast by the Ontario government featured former U.S. President Ronald Reagan warning about the dangers of tariffs, asserting that the advertisement carried a “false political message.” He added, “I like Carney very much, but he made a mistake, and he apologized for what happened.”
Trump stated last week that he would cancel negotiations and threatened to impose an additional 10% increase on tariffs imposed on Canada. It is worth noting that Reagan was a prominent supporter of free trade, making the use of his statements in the advertisement appear as a direct criticism of Trump’s protectionist policy.
