In a partnership described as the largest of its kind, NVIDIA and Oracle announced a joint initiative with the U.S. Department of Energy to build the largest artificial intelligence supercomputer in the country, named “Solstice.”

This giant system will include more than 100,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, in addition to a parallel system called Equinox containing another 10,000 units, and will be operated at Argonne National Laboratory. The two platforms will be connected via NVIDIA high-speed networks to provide a computing power of up to 2200 exaflops, making them the most powerful AI infrastructure in the history of the Department of Energy.

This project aims to enable scientists to train advanced AI models using “Megatron-Core” and “TensorRT™️” libraries to support open research in climate, health, national security, and materials science.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang described this project as “America’s next discovery engine,” while Secretary of Energy Chris Wright affirmed that this partnership represents “a model for accelerating innovation and transforming it into a national strength.”

The “Solstice” and “Equinox” systems represent a new model of public-private collaboration, serving as a clear message that the United States is striving to enhance its technological leadership in the global AI race.
