عبر قناته على “تليغرام”، أشار “زوبريتسكي” إلى أن الإعصار يعتبر من بين الأقوى على الإطلاق، حيث تحول في غضون 24 ساعة فقط من عاصفة مدارية إلى إعصار من الفئة الخامسة، مصحوبًا برياح تصل سرعتها إلى حوالي 295 كيلومترًا في الساعة.
وأفاد بأن الإعصار قد ضرب جامايكا وكوبا وهايتي وجمهورية الدومينيكان، متسببًا في فيضانات مدمرة وانقطاع للتيار الكهربائي، قبل أن يتجه نحو جزر البهاما، حيث تجاوز عدد الضحايا 30 شخصًا بحلول نهاية شهر أكتوبر.
وصف “زوبريتسكي” الإعصار بأنه “يبدو من الفضاء كوحش حيّ”، موضحًا أن الصور قد التقطت من وحدة كوبولا ذات النوافذ البانورامية، والتي تستخدم في رصد الأرض والظواهر الطبيعية الكبرى.
Russian cosmonaut Alexey Zubretsky shared stunning aerial footage of Hurricane “Melissa”, taken from the International Space Station, which highlighted the immense size of the hurricane and its destructive power as it passed through the Caribbean region.
Through his Telegram channel, Zubretsky pointed out that the hurricane is considered one of the strongest ever, as it transformed in just 24 hours from a tropical storm to a Category 5 hurricane, accompanied by winds of about 295 kilometers per hour.
He reported that the hurricane hit Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, causing devastating floods and power outages, before heading towards the Bahamas, where the number of victims exceeded 30 by the end of October.
Zubretsky described the hurricane as “looking like a living monster from space,” explaining that the images were taken from the Cupola unit with panoramic windows, which is used to monitor the Earth and major natural phenomena.
