
During the meeting, the Spanish Admiral presented to the President of the Republic a review of the observations he collected during his inspection tour in the south, stressing his country’s continued support for the Lebanese army and the “UNIFIL” mission. He pointed out that this support aims to maintain security and stability in the southern region.
Calderón explained that the Spanish force has been present in the south for 20 years, and during this period, its members have worked to implement international resolutions, in addition to building strong and friendly relations with the residents of the southern regions, especially in the difficult times that the south has witnessed and continues to witness.
For his part, President Aoun welcomed Admiral Calderón, expressing his thanks for Spain’s participation in the international forces operating in the south. He also praised Spain’s continued readiness to assist Lebanon in maintaining stability and security in this region, in coordination with the Lebanese army and military units from other European countries that have expressed their desire to continue their efforts to provide calm and security in the south.
President Aoun praised the sacrifices made by Spanish soldiers since their deployment in southern Lebanon 20 years ago, stressing that the southerners have unforgettable memories of the assistance provided to them by Spanish soldiers, especially during the “successive Israeli attacks on their areas and homes,” in addition to social, health and other services.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the President of the Republic expressed his hope to accept the invitation he received to pay an official visit to Spain during the “coming months,” appreciating the positions of the “Spanish monarch King Felipe VI and the Spanish government supporting Lebanon.”
