The Secretary-General of the “Federation of Bakery and Oven Syndicates in Lebanon,” Edgar Tayyah, issued a statement addressing “what has been circulating on social media about cases of poisoning suffered by a number of citizens in a bakery in the Jbeil area.” He clarified “to the public that the poisoning cases recorded in the Jbeil area were in a manoucheh bakery, which was sealed with red wax by the competent authorities after verifying the violations and receiving complaints, as shown in the media. As for the bakeries and ovens affiliated with the Federation of Bakery and Oven Syndicates in Lebanon, which produce white bread and its derivatives, they have no connection to this matter, either directly or indirectly.”
Tayyah appealed to “the municipalities and concerned ministries to tighten control over manoucheh bakeries and supermarkets that produce French bread, croissants, sweets and their derivatives within them, in order to ensure compliance with the health conditions and standards followed in regular ovens that are subject to periodic monitoring by the competent ministries.”
He also called on “all bakeries, ovens and institutions that work in the production of croissants, French bread and manoucheh to register their institutions with the municipalities and competent ministries and fully adhere to food safety standards, in order to prevent the recurrence of any similar incidents in the future.”
