The Yemeni House of Representatives held a consultative meeting via video on Thursday, dedicated to discussing ways to activate its legislative and oversight role in light of the difficult conditions the country is experiencing.

The meeting was chaired by the Speaker of the House, Sheikh Sultan Al-Burkani, where members reviewed important national issues related to the political, economic, social, and security situations, in addition to discussing the obstacles hindering the regular holding of council sessions.

During the discussions, the representatives affirmed the responsibility of the concerned parties for the current deteriorating conditions, pointing out that restoring the role of state institutions and unifying the national decision can only be achieved through institutions fully fulfilling their constitutional and legal duties.

The discussion addressed what the representatives described as “constitutional, legal, financial, and administrative violations” that have appeared in some state institutions during the past period, considering them to be “a flagrant violation of the constitution and the law and a direct detriment to the public interest.”

The members expressed their deep concern about the continuing manifestations of abuse of power, warning that irresponsible practices in the management of public affairs lead to increased chaos and undermine citizens’ confidence in the state and its legitimacy.

At the end of the meeting, the council decided to form a specialized committee, tasked with several tasks, the most important of which are:

Preparing a comprehensive study to identify mechanisms for holding meetings via video.

Developing clear visions and work plans for the council, and monitoring previous violations of the constitution and the law.

Studying the possibility of holding the council in one of the currently available governorates, and assigning a team to arrange that.

Inviting the Presidential Leadership Council to hold an urgent meeting with the council’s presidency and the heads of parliamentary blocs, in any place determined by the head of the Leadership Council.

The meeting concluded by emphasizing that the council will resume its meetings after the committee completes its tasks, in a step aimed at ensuring the continuation of parliamentary work despite the current political and security challenges.
