The delegation presented to President “Berri” a list of joint demands with the Gathering of Public Sector Leagues, which included a set of urgent living and administrative demands, foremost among them the amendment of salaries and wages and the improvement of social conditions.
The statement indicated that the list included a proposal to increase salaries by 50% at the beginning of 2026, with the adoption of a gradual increase of 10% every six months, reaching 100% of the salary value as it was in 2019 (at an exchange rate of 1500 L.L.), in order to ensure a “decent living” for employees. The League also called for “correcting family allowances,” considering this a temporary measure until the approval of a new series of ranks and salaries linked to the cost of living and inflation index, with a moving salary scale that guarantees justice and stability.
The statement pointed out that the meeting also addressed issues related to the public sector, including: Reducing the unfair perseverance conditions imposed on employees in light of the difficult living conditions. Subjecting all contractors in public administrations to the retirement law through the Civil Service Board. Amending Decree No. 5240/2001 to include all contractors, and presenting it at the first session of the General Assembly of Parliament. Appointments, promotions, and the تثبيت (tathbiit – likely meaning “formalizing the positions of”) contractors according to criteria of justice, efficiency, and seniority.
The statement mentioned that President “Berri” showed complete understanding and unlimited support for the demands, and affirmed that he would follow up on their implementation with the concerned government agencies. He also stressed the importance of accelerating the amendment of salaries and social benefits in a way that guarantees the continued operation of public institutions.
During the meeting, President “Berri” directly contacted the Minister of Finance, “Yassin Jaber,” and insisted on holding an immediate meeting with the League’s delegation. The Minister responded to the request and received the delegation immediately, and a meeting described as very positive was held, during which the two parties discussed the conditions of perseverance, social benefits, and salary adjustments.
The Minister expressed his readiness to amend the conditions of perseverance, and agreed to involve representatives of the League in the meetings scheduled for the beginning of next week, which will be devoted to discussing the file of salaries and social benefits until Tuesday at the latest.
The meeting also touched on the social situation of public sector employees, and the Minister conveyed the Parliament’s support for the legitimate demands presented by the delegation.
The statement indicated that the delegation met with a number of deputies at the same time and presented them with the same demands, stressing that the meetings will continue in the coming days with the heads of parliamentary blocs to follow up on the implementation of these demands until they are fully achieved.
In conclusion, the League affirmed that it is intensively and diligently following up on all the files presented in coordination with all concerned parties, with the aim of reaching practical and fair solutions that preserve the dignity of employees and the continued operation of public institutions.
In another context, the League condemned the Israeli aggression on the البليدة (Buleida) municipality building, which led to the martyrdom of the municipal worker “Ibrahim Salami” while performing his work, considering that targeting a public institution is an aggression against the Lebanese state and a flagrant violation of the protection of employees in public facilities.
